Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s duopoly has officially been broken.
The pair led the way for 10 years but finally the Ballon d’Or has a new owner in Luka Modric.Modric was crowned the 2018 winner in a year in which the awards have poured in.
The Croatia also claimed the UEFA and FIFA awards, to go with the Golden Ball he earned at the World Cup.
Ronaldo and Messi came in second and fifth place respectively.
The award is voted for by national team captains and managers as well as selected journalists.
Every year sees some mind-boggling votes and 2018 was no different. The journalist for Grenada, for example, selected Sergio Aguero No.1 and didn’t pick a single member of France’s World Cup winning squad in his five votes.
Journalist's voters were tallied incorrectly
It seemed as if Trinidad and Tobago journalist Lasana Liburd was guilty of failing to pick Modric, Messi or Ronaldo first, too.
According to the official voting slip, Liburd gave his first vote to Antoine Griezmann and the rest to Mohamed Salah, Ronaldo, Modric and Messi, in that order.
But it seems as though Liburd’s votes were tallied incorrectly.
The Wired868 football writer has taken to Twitter to claim that his selections were tallied in the wrong order - he picked Messi first and Griezmann fifth.
It seemed as if Trinidad and Tobago journalist Lasana Liburd was guilty of failing to pick Modric, Messi or Ronaldo first, too.

The revelation hasn’t gone down well with Messi’s supporters.
Liburd went on to say that he believes human-error is to blame.
Hopefully he’s right and there was no foul play involved.
Modric came out on top after receiving 753 voters, 275 more than Ronaldo.
