Lionel Messi To Miss Spain v Argentina After Reoccurring Hamstring Injury

Lionel Messi will miss Argentina’s friendly with Spain tonight as the coaching staff decide not to risk their star player who has been suffering from a hamstring injury. The Argentine joined in with training over the weekend after missing La Albiceleste’s 2-0 win over Italy on Friday in Manchester.
Although disappointing for viewers of tonight’s game, this news will come as a welcome relief for Barcelona and their manager, Ernesto Valverde. Barcelona are closing in on La Liga’s title, face Roma in the last eight of the Champions League and have a Copa del Rey final to come as they eye up a treble.

They will be hoping that Messi is at full fitness for the upcoming games but they will have to manage him carefully, as Argentina have done during this international break. Both Argentina and Barcelona will hope the 30-year-old stays in peak fitness as he attempts to fire them to a successful season.

This is likely to be Messi’s last chance at winning an international tournament, so it is vital that preparations run smoothly for him and his country. They scraped through qualifying with the Argentine scoring a hat-trick to drag his side from a goal down against Ecuador and through to the final automatic qualification place.

Despite Messi’s absence from tonight’s game it should still be a cracking encounter between the two countries who will be hoping for success in Russia this summer. Barcelona players Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique should all make an appearance for the hosts as they look to measure themselves in this international friendly.
