LIONEL MESSI has signed his new four-year contract at Barcelona, says president Josep Maria Bartomeu, even though the club are yet to make an announcement on the de.
In the summer Manchester City were linked with a £275million move for Messi - although both clubs denied a deal was on the horizon.
Messi himself has kept quiet about his current situation.
He is not the only player whose contract expires next summer, with the future of Andres Iniesta also up in the air.
But Bartomeu, himself under pressure from supporters following Barca’s disastrous transfer window, is adamant both men will stay and the club and says Messi’s terms are already agreed.
“Contracts for Messi and Iniesta? The club members can rest easy.
“We’ve already said Messi’s renewal is signed and that he’ll be at Barca for as long as he wants, the same with Iniesta.
“[Iniesta] has extraordinary quality. He was here when Ronaldinho was and now he’s with Messi. He’s crucial for us, he had a great game.
“We’ve started with enthusiasm and excited the club members. It’s to Ernesto Valverde’s credit.”
Messi has scored eight goals already for Barca this season as the club adjust to the loss of Neymar in the transfer window.
Ousmane Dembele, the Brazilian’s replacement, lasted 71 minutes at the Nou Camp as he searches his first goal since arriving in a £138m deal from Borussia Dortmund.
As for Iniesta, he is yet to finish a match for Barca or Spain this season and his club tried unsuccessfully to sign an understudy to the veteran during the summer.
