No Manchester City move for Messi or Mbappe, but signings still possible

Manchester City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain says bringing Lionel Messi or Kylian Mbappe to the club this summer would be “impossible”.

Messi has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent days, with reports suggesting the club are preparing to activate his £275 million buyout clause.
But Begiristain has put to bed any of those rumours.
“Come on, it’s impossible,” Begiristain said. “He will stay at Barcelona.”
On the other hand, Mbappe has been linked with a move away from defending Ligue 1 Champions AS Monaco after a dazzling breakthrough campaign last season.
But he now appears to be on the way to Paris Saint-Germain.
“We are out of the race – it is impossible to do it with the time remaining,” Begiristain said. “It will not happen, it is impossible.
“It’s not our job to do it today or tomorrow. When you try to get those kind of players you have to move much earlier. It’s impossible to do it now in the last days.”
Despite ruling out moves for the duo, the club official has suggested other signings could be on the cards.
“We can try to do some movement but now we are very happy,” he said.
“If something happens in the last days our job is always to be ready. If we think we can improve the squad, we will do it. As we are now, we are really happy.”
