Lionel Messi has been advised to leave Barcelona by super agent Mino Raiola.
Barcelona announced Messi had agreed to a sign a new deal earlier this
summer but the contract currently remains unsigned, meaning La Liga’s
all-time leading goalscorer could walk away on a free transfer next
summer.
‘A player like Messi must try another experience with a different
club and prove how great he is,’ Raiola, who brokered the deals that saw
Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku join Manhcester United, told Marca.
‘Barcelona must be reinvented again.’
The Catalan giants are still reeling from the departure of Neymar,
who joined Paris Saint-Germain in a world record £198million deal last
month and can ill-afford to mishandle Messi’s precarious situation.
Earlier this week The Sun claimed Messi was seriously contemplating quitting Barcelona next summer and his dad had already spoken to Manchester City about making a sensational switch to the Etihad.
The report suggested Jorge Messi, Leo’s father, met with City
director of football Txiki Begiristain recently to discuss a potential
move to the Premier League.
Messi is believed to have his own buyout clause set at £263m, though
Barca have astonishingly allowed his contract to run down, meaning he
will cost nothing if he moves in less than 12 months’ time.
